JOB TITLE — AM / Mgr – Product Development & Engineering
DEPARTMENT — Product Development & Engineering
LOCATION — Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur, Chennai
REPORTS TO — General Manager – Operations
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Product development and engineering including design, engineering, analysis, prototyping, testing and getting approval. Preparation of documentation for the approved products. Handling mass manufacturing of the completed products based on client requirements. Manage a team of engineers and designers and guide them to achieve the goal within the stipulated time.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
o Reporting to the GM – Operations, must be capable of handling new product development of the products identified by the company by keeping quality, performance and cost in mind.
o Preparing the requirements and specification docs for the product modules.
o Doing literature survey in order to make the product unique, technically advanced and cost effective.
o Involving in development activities such as prototype design, model analysis, drawing preparation, prototype manufacturing, testing, etc.,
o Applies all relevant international regulations / norms / standards.
o Work with drafting personnel on the product detail modelling, part & assembly drawings, specifications and Bill of materials.
o Analyse and interpret test data and make product revisions as necessary to comply with safety and performance requirements.
o Co-ordinate with external consultants and sub-contractors in order to design, manufacture and testing of prototypes.
o Identify areas of concern with respect to progress of assigned tasks and recommend corrective action wherever required.
o Preparing purchase specifications for the components and Co-ordinate with procurement team for arranging the materials and required components for prototype manufacturing and testing.
o Maintaining cost and resource expenditure details during the phase of each product development.
o Responsible for product certification as per international standards and regulations.
o Handling existing products new models design, modifications and related engineering activities.
o Handling post order engineering as well as execution with the help of his team to meet customer technical and delivery requirements.
o Overall responsibility for specific tasks – plan, development, follow up, report and delivery of agreed objectives.
o Preparing and submitting weekly reports on the progress of the product developments to GM / management.
o Carry out other duties that may be assigned such as product evaluation, cost reduction, manufacturing problem resolving, etc.,
o Involving on the bulk manufacturing of the products developed as part of Product Development as per company’s internal requirements as well as for outside markets.
o Maintaining confidentiality on the product design and its related documentation and strictly adhere to the company’s rules and regulations on this.
o Managing a team of engineers and designers and guiding them to achieve the goal set by the management within the agreed time frame.
o Monitoring the team’s performance and preparing the report.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
o Bachelor of Engineering (BE / B.TECH) in Mechanical from a reputed university with good academic record as minimum.
o Specialization in Product design if any would be considered as added advantage
o Working Experience: 10 to 20 years.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
o Hands on experience in product development from conceiving concept to prototype completion especially in Instrumentation engineering components and products.
o Experience in product design, analysis, manufacturing, testing, etc., is essential.
o Exposure to international codes & standards.
o Shall have good knowledge in technical applications, manufacturing implications & methods, mechanics of materials and its properties.
o Ability to think innovatively and resolve practical obstacles during product development.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
o Experience in FEA / CFD software packages (CATIA, SOLID EDGE, SOLID WORKS, etc.,)
o Working knowledge with AutoCAD
o Working knowledge SAP or related ERP software is required
